i’ve tried

as mentioned in the post before last, october will see the release of my album full of vocal experiments . . . these walls of mine . . . which can now be preordered here. most of the songs on this record were debuted on my flickr page a couple years ago and were created while in the process of making my http album. two songs, however, are more recent numbers, written at home in summer 2011. at one point i started walking around my apartment singing in a rather r&b style just for fun, and then i had the idea to try and make an entire song in this manner. that’s how i’ve tried came to be.

in the video below you can see me performing the song with my good friend martyn heyne, at his lichte studio, where we finalized the mixes of the album, running all my tracks through his old tape machines and echo boxes . . . fun!!!

  1. I love that you continually experiment with different genres and don’t just stick to one sound. Great job!

  8. I’VE TRIED:

    In this brave new world
The only guard (god) is you
And in this game of hearts
    The only card is you
    In this song of love
    The only voice is you
And in this voice of you
    Every sound must be true
And with the sound of truth
Comes the joy of baby ruth youth

But I’ve tried keeping the mind high
And I’ve tried keeping levels low
And I’ve tried to catch the eye of a spirit
    That’s always looking away
    I’ve tried

  11. Hi Peter ! I’ve been looking for the original version of Softly Freezing for ages without success, I wouldn’t mind buying the whole album again to get this song but it’s absolutely impossible to find apart from a user made video on youtube.

Any way you could reupload it somewhere ? It’s one of the most perfect songs I’ve ever heard and I just have to have it !

    Thanks in advance 🙂 !

  12. Hi Maxime.

I’m glad you asked about that song! I am currently in discussions with some label folks about potentially re-releasing that song . . . I will know more soon but if this happens it probably will not be until mid 2018 sometime…

    Best wishes,

    Peter

  13. Hi Peter,

It’s been quite a while since my last message, but I’m still haunted by Softly Freezing, and still scared that if the one youtube video that features it somehow gets taken down, I’ll never be able to hear this beautiful song of yours again.

There’s something quite poetic about this piece of music being so elusive in an age where everything seems to be readily available online, but I do hope you can help me in my quest to find it.

    Thanks in advance !

    Best regards,
    Maxime

  14. Hi Maxime.

Thanks for writing again. Tell you what . . . if the YouTube video ever disappears, then reach out and let me know, and I’ll sort a way for you to hear the song again.

    All the best,

    Peter
